SINGAPORE:
111 drug offenders nabbed, 2kg cannabis seized in islandwide raids
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) arrested 111 suspected drug offenders and
seized drugs worth more than $88,000 in multiple operations throughout
Singapore.
A drug syndicate that distributes cannabis was dismantled in one of the
operations.
The drugs found include more than 2kg of cannabis, 112g of Ice, 89g of heroin,
50 Ecstasy tablets and a small amount of ketamine worth more than $88,600 in
total.
Over 11 days from May 23 till Friday (June 3), raids were conducted at
locations islandwide, CNB said in a press release.
The areas covered included Clementi, Geylang, Tampines, Boon Lay, Bukit Batok,
Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio, Sembawang, Punggol and Bukit Panjang.
In one of the raids, drug paraphernalia ordered over the Internet and more than
100g of cannabis were found in an Orchard Road apartment.
CNB officers arrested a 29-year-old Singaporean man who also possessed about
20g of Ice, Ecstasy tablets, Erimin-5 tablets, and a small amount of ketamine.
He was suspected of ordering the drug apparatus online.
The bureau said it will work to "prevent attempts to bring in controlled drugs
through the postal system or other means".
In a separate case, a suspected drug runner, a 26-year-old Singaporean man, was
tailed by CNB officers to a suspected drug store in Yishun.
He and the suspected syndicate leader, also 26, were seen meeting up with 2
suspected drug clients.
The 2 clients, both Singaporeans in their 20s, were caught with 110g of
cannabis on them.
The suspected syndicate leader, drug runner and their associates were arrested
separately.
Officers also recovered about 1.8kg of cannabis and a small amount of Ice, with
an estimated street value of more than $62,000 from the "drug store".
Investigations into the drug activities of all suspects are ongoing, CNB said.
Those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis may face the death
penalty.
