Message-ID: Dona Playton UW DV Legal Assistance Project 1000 East University Avenue, Dept. 3010 Laramie, WY 82071 (307) 766-3664 ________________________________ From: Kim, Cindy [mailto:KimCS at STAFF.ABANET.ORG] Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 8:05 AM To: CDVLAW at MAIL.ABANET.ORG Subject: [CDVLAW] Standards of Practice has been adopted by the ABA! I am pleased to announce that the early-release version of the Standards of Practice for Lawyers Representing Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking in Civil Protection Order Cases is now available for download on our website at www.abanet.org/domviol . The Standards of Practice was a collaborative project, drawing upon the expertise of over 50 practitioners and judges, and they were adopted by the American Bar Association (ABA) as official ABA policy on August 13, 2007. We are still working with a printer to format the cover page, add graphics, etc., but the substantive content that was adopted by the ABA is final and not subject to change. Once the hard copy is published, instructions about ordering will be posted on our website. Our hope is that the adoption of the Standards will help further the original goals of this project which were to improve the quality of legal representation of survivors and raise awareness about the importance of ethical and effective representation in these cases. Pass on the good news! Cindy S.
