The Law of the International Criminal Court

By
Young Sok Kim
Associate Professor of Law, Ewha Womans University
Visiting Associate Professor of Law, University of Illinois College of Law

In 1998, Professor Kim served, on behalf of the Korean Government, as a delegate to the Rome Conference for the Drafting of the Statute of the International Criminal Court, as well as the second and third sessions of the Preparatory Commission for the ICC, held in New York.

"Kim's enormous hands-on experience with the ICC proves an incredible source of authority for this new book. So, Kim's book on the ICC will become required reading for the international lawyer, political scientists, human rights leaders, peace advocates, and government officials all over the world."
-Francis A. Boyle, Foreword

Kim's work offers a clear and in-depth look into the law, procedures, composition and authority of the International Criminal Court. It also aims to bridge the gap between the unfavorable position of those states refusing to ratify the Court's treaty, including the United States and Israel, with the stance of a large majority of other governments desiring to establish a permanent International Criminal Court.

The International Criminal Court (ICC), created in 1998, acts as a steadfast tribunal to prosecute individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression. The ICC was established in Rome when nations from across the globe gathered together at the United Nations Diplomatic Conference and created a binding treaty entitled the Rome Statute. Today over one hundred nations have ratified this treaty and are member states of the ICC.

Kim's knowledge and first hand experience in shaping the ICC makes this a necessary addition to all International Law Collections!
