From heinonline at lists.washlaw.edu Wed Aug 2 19:56:02 2006 From: heinonline at lists.washlaw.edu (HeinOnline Listserv) Date: Wed, 2 Aug 2006 15:56:02 -0400 Subject: [HeinOnline listserv] New Content Available in HeinOnline Message-ID: Dear HeinOnline subscribers, It was wonderful to see so many friends at this year's AALL meeting in St. Louis. Without a doubt, the most popular talk at our exhibit booth revolved around HeinOnline's (http://heinonline.org) soon-to-be-released Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) content which is coming in October. We're very excited about adding the CFR to HeinOnline, and hope it will bring even greater efficiency to all CFR researchers. In addition, we received many requests for online demonstrations, so if you are interested, please contact us today (marketing at wshein.com ) to schedule a time convenient for you and your colleagues. We are more than happy to conduct online demonstrations to familiarize you with HeinOnline. I would like to thank Anita Shew of Butler County Law Library Association in Hamilton, Ohio, who gave me several suggestions on how to enhance these announcements. I'll implement as many as possible in future announcements. Your suggestions are always welcome. Please feel free to send them to b_jablonski at wshein.com Below you will find a list of the new content that has been added to HeinOnline. As of this release, which is close to 300,000 new pages, HeinOnline now contains 20.7 million pages, and there are 888 journals in the Law Journal Library collection. We'll be adding a cumulative total to various HeinOnline web pages in the future so you will always know exactly how many titles and pages are available in HeinOnline. Special thanks to Nancy Cowden of Oklahoma City University law library for this valuable suggestion. I do want to point out a few enhancements that we have made to HeinOnline with this new content release: 1) In the Federal Register Library we have provided a direct link to Erwin Griswold's article about the need to create the Federal Register. The article appeared in volume 48 of Harvard Law Review and is only available to subscribers of HeinOnline's Law Journal Library; 2) In the Treaties and Agreements Library we have added links to important treaty sites which are external to HeinOnline to provide greater value to treaty researchers; 3) In the U.S. Federal Legislative History Library we have added links to external documents to aid researchers. These documents range from "How Our Laws Are Made" to "Compiling a Legislative History" and "Federal Legislative History Research"; 4) In place of the "Current Information" text that appeared next to many titles throughout HeinOnline (links to provide greater information about actively published titles), we have adopted the universal "i" symbol. Finally, as you will notice below in the journal updates section, many journals are now asking us to include their current issues. Therefore, if you are an academic subscriber to HeinOnline, please encourage your journals to consider allowing us to include current issues. This will increase exposure of the new articles and the royalties they receive. They may simply contact me to request inclusion of their current issues. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of HeinOnline. Sincerely, Brian Jablonski Director, Marketing & Publications William S. This upgrade is essential in light of the increasing content and usage of the product. Once the upgrade takes effect, which is expected before the end of this month, HeinOnline researchers will notice better server response times. Of course, various factors may influence the overall performance, but we are confident that the results will be much improved. Most HeinOnline subscribing institutions will NOT need to do anything to take advantage of this upgrade. As long as those institutions utilizing a proxy server followed proper procedures when they began their HeinOnline subscription, the upgrade will pose no connectivity issues. In order to ensure that your proxy server will point to our new servers, please make sure that you have a wildcard reference to HeinOnline in your proxy settings (this should be " *.heinonline.org "). Once again, HeinOnline has always recommended that you use this wildcard entry, but in some instances we have found that is not always the case with some institutions. If you have any other entries, such as " www.heinonline.org ", " heinonline.org ", or " hawk.heinonline.org " your proxy server will not point properly to our new servers. Once again, the ONLY entry you will need both before and after the server upgrade is " *.heinonline.org ". You can find information related to the proxy server entry on our HeinOnline technical support page at: http://www.heinonline.org/HOL/Help?topic=faq-connect. Or, please feel free to contact us at techsupport at wshein.com, via toll-free phone within North America at (800) 828-7571 extension 237, outside North America at (716) 882-2600 extension 237, or via fax at (716) 883-8100. We appreciate your continued support of HeinOnline, and look forward to delivering this upgrade which we are sure will provide even faster results for all HeinOnline researchers. Sincerely, Daniel P. With this release, HeinOnline has reached the 21 million page plateau! This release also brings HeinOnline's Law Journal Library to 900 titles, and the Legal Classics collection is nearly 550 titles. By year-end, the Legal Classics Library will surpass 1,000 titles! The new content is listed below for your convenience. The FREE Cataloging Aid ( http://washburnlaw.edu/heinonline/) has also been updated to reflect all of the new content. MARC records for the titles in the Legal Classics Library are available from this site as well (simply look in the upper-right hand corner of this web page to find the link to the Legal Classics cataloging records). In addition, the new web servers, which were previously announced last week (Daniel Rosati's message is listed below for your convenience about the new web server upgrade) should provide all researchers with a dramatic increase in the search result speeds. Personally, while searching the word "Tasini" in the full-text search box within the Most-Cited Law Journals Library, I was truly amazed at how quickly the results appeared. I've included Mr. Rosati's original message below for anyone who may not have seen it. Any subscribers utilizing a proxy server to access HeinOnline should review this message and contact him with any questions. Later this week I plan to send another message to this list-serv informing everyone of some exciting new enhancements that have been in process for quite some time. These new enhancements will once again provide a better research experience for all users of HeinOnline! On behalf of everyone at William S. Hein & Co., Inc., thank you for your ongoing support of HeinOnline, and we are truly thrilled to be able to provide this product to your library.
