EUROPE:

Anti-death penalty day

A proposal by the European Commission to create a European Day Against the
Death Penalty was supported by all EU countries except Poland.

Polish officials made the case that such a day was not needed, since all
EU countries have abolished the death penalty. Warsaw claims the EU needs
a day devoted to the protection of life in general, which would condemn
abortion and euthanasia as well as the death penalty.
