RUSSIA:
PACE expects Russia to abolish death penalty
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe expects Russia to
ratify the sixth protocol to the European Human Rights Convention in the
near future, thus abolishing the death penalty.
Head of Russia's PACE delegation Konstantin Kosachyov told journalists on
Tuesday that the subject was discussed at his Tuesday meeting with the
chairman of the PACE Monitoring Commission Georgy Frunda in Moscow.
Referring to Frunda's position, Kosachyov said that "it is of prime
importance that Russia ratify the 6th protocol to the European Human
rights Convention and abolish the death penalty. Without this, the
monitoring in Russia will not end."
